I came across this book while watching a YouTube video but had no intention of buying it based on the video. I wanted to order another book and in order to have a free shipping, I needed to include another item and somehow thought about this book and somehow, the price on this book fit the exact amount (almost) that was needed to obtain a free shipping. Fun fact is, I have not touched the other book yet and I have read this one and keep going back to it for reference. I guess this is an example of the book finding me when I needed it the most.
Book Summary
The book starts off with some of the crisis the author had experienced and how he hit rock bottom in his life. He decided to go on a run to clear his head and that is when something sparked in his mind which was developed into The Miracle Morning- a routine he follows every single day which miraculously transformed his life. The author's genuine intent to help people change their people's lives is very evident.
The book makes an effort to give readers a reality check on whether they are leading mediocre lives. In addition, there is a topic covered about Sleep and why we should wake up every morning and some techniques that could be applied for people who are not habitually "morning people". He tempts the readers with a promise of waking up with the same kind of enthusiasm as they do on a Christmas morning.
The main essence of the book is the 6 habits which Hal Elrod refers to as Life S.A.V.E.R.S. The S.A.V.E.R.S. is acronym for the 6 habits- Silence, Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading and Scribing. I will touch upon these 6 habits briefly. I highly recommend that one reads the book in order to understand better and also get the complete picture. This blog post is just the tip of the iceberg.
S for Silence: Hal starts off his day by sitting in silence. His five favourite activities to choose from to practice this habit are: Meditation, Prayer, Reflection, Deep Breathing and Gratitude. There is a bit of guidance on how Meditation can be practised.
A for Affirmations: The author emphasises on how self-talk can have an impact on our success and suggests that we define and design our own affirmations. Again there is a guide on how we can go about designing our own affirmations.
V for Visualization: Here, Hal focuses on the creative visualisation of the vision we have for our lives and future and how it has an impact on living our best lives. He describes these an enablers to overcome challenges and execute our plans. Again, there is a guide available on how to proceed with this process.
E for Exercise: There is an emphasis on morning exercises and it lists the benefits and the different exercises one can do.
R for Reading: Hal talks about the benefits of reading as a part of this activity- mainly reading books in the area of your life where, you want to see an improvement, or, an area where you want to achieve something or be successful in. He has recommended some books based on the areas he wanted to be successful in.
S for Scribing: This is nothing but Journaling or writing. Hal presents a case for journaling and has provided a step by step guide on effective journaling.
The book also shares tips on how the habits can be customised for different lifestyles and how exactly to practice them and also challenges readers to a 30 day transformational journey.
Takeaways:
I have created an Instagram post which I will share here. It lists all my key takeaways from the book.
Writing Style and Ease of Reading:
The book is written in a very simple language and partly shares life experiences and partly as a guide. Each chapter starts with some very nice quotes. The book is very easy to read, inspiring and it was actually very difficult for me to put down once I started. I am certain that I will read this book several times.
As you must have guessed by now- I highly recommend this book to everyone. Personally, today is my Day 21 of practising The Miracle Morning.
