Do you often find yourself scampering around looking for a paper or pen or something to write on or something to write with? You have an important document to send out but cannot find a thing to seal the envelope. If you have found yourself in such a situation or anticipate this can happen to you, this post is for you. Every home needs a stationery kit with essential items that are always handy. It is similar to a First-aid kit. It might not be just as important but definitely just as useful.
1. Pen/Pencil and Paper
This is an obvious inclusion in a home stationery kit. One can choose any pen or pencil in a working condition and a small paper stack, post it notes or a notebook in the kit.
2. Cutting Instruments
Most of us order something or the other online. When the parcel arrives, we definitely need something to cut it open with. One may choose a paper cutter or paper knife or a pair of scissors.
3. Stapler/Paper Clips and Binder Clips
The intention here is to keep papers together. A regular stapler and staple pins or paper clips would aid in keeping a small volume of paper together, whereas a binder clip would aid in keeping larger volume of paper together.
4. Glue and Tapes
It is quite important that we all have a good quality glue in the kit. My personal preference is glue stick. We should also keep some scotch tapes and duct tapes in the kit for things that cannot be held together strongly enough by glue.
5. Paper Punch
A punching machine is quite handy and useful especially if you need to file away some important papers.
6. Envelopes and Stamps
Sometimes, we may be required to send some documents or parcel via regular mail or speed post or courier, a few envelopes in different sizes and types are quite useful so that we do not have to make a run to the stationery shop each time. In an Indian scenario, for several milestone celebrations, people like gifting others cash in a fancy envelope as well. If you are one of those people, you may want to stock up on some of those fancy envelopes too.
In case of posting letters or documents via mail, we would also need some stamps. Stamps are not very expensive and it would help to keep a few of different denominations.
7. Measuring Devices
These could be a simple foot ruler or a measuring tape but it is quite important to have these for basic measurements while ordering something or preparing notes. From my experience, I can tell you I use it so often- from buying a writing table to a mattress or online shopping or drawing lines in my notebook.
Some tips:
1. We must remember to take stock once in a while, may be once in every 6 months or even once a year and ensure there are adequate refills or stock available.
2. Keep all of these items together, in a drawer or a box so that you know where to find an item when you need it.
